This Daruma is created through a unique firing process in which it is buried in a cylindrical ceramic chamber filled with a large amount of rice husks. As the husks burn, they release a high concentration of carbon, resulting in its distinctive deep black surface.

This Daruma embodies the spirit of “Fueki Ryūkō”—the balance between timeless tradition and evolving modernity. Its universal form and the profound black hue of the pottery give it a presence that transcends time while resonating with contemporary aesthetics. By merging traditional techniques with a modern sensibility, I have crafted a piece that conveys quiet strength within stillness.

Both its shape and material tell the story of “Fueki Ryūkō.” By layering the traditional Daruma form with the contemporary depth of black pottery, I have sought to express a timeless essence. The surface is meticulously polished multiple times using metal, refining the texture and creating a deep, lustrous sheen with a smooth, tactile finish. This delicate hand-finishing process enhances the Daruma’s unique texture and weight, evoking a sense of both tranquility and strength. この達磨は、筒状の陶器の中に大量の籾殻を入れ、その中に埋めて密閉焼成することで生まれます。籾殻が燃焼する際に大量の炭素が発生し、独特の漆黒の質感を生み出します。

この達磨は、「不易流行」の精神を象徴する作品です。普遍的な形状と黒陶の深みのある色彩が、時代を超えた存在感を持ちながら、現代的な感覚とも響き合います。伝統的な技法とモダンな美意識を融合させ、静けさの中に確かな力を秘めた作品に仕上げました。
